I would not run ccleaner, it is more likely to cause problems than to help anything. Superantispyware is probably not needed imo, however, I don't think there's anything wrong with using it.

More you can do (that you may already be doing) is make sure your java, flash, and adobe reader (if you have these things) are up to date (if you don't have them, don't get them). And use firefox instead of IE imo, and keep firefox updated. Also be careful with Avast's additional tools since they also can cause problems (ie: do not trust them, people have had the browser protector delete their programs and hijack them to yahoo search, etc), but the main anti-virus is fine. And keep windows up to date.

CCleaner is a known and respectable program used to clean temporary files on a system. This program is perfectly safe to use as long as you use it for temporary file cleaning and you ignore it's Registry cleaner feature. You can also use TFC (Temp File Cleaner), which is a standalone executable hosted here on BleepingComputer that also clean temporary files on a system. As for keeping programs like Java and Adobe Flash Player updated, I would suggest to uninstall these if you don't use it. Reason is that they are the two most exploited programs to infect a system and having them installed is a security vulnerability on a Windows system. If you need them, you can keep them installed (and updated of course), but set them to "On demand" only when it comes to using them. There's also various software monitoring programs like SecuniaPSI or Heimdal Free that helps you identify outdated programs and update them.

jcwrightjr may I ask how you is your system performing right now? Do you think it have a good, stable performance or do you think that it's sluggish and there's something wrong with it?

Having a weekly scan with all of the mentioned above is a good practice while avast would be running in the background (real time protection) and most likely ESET online scanner for once a month. Just want to add another second opinion alternative if you have firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/bitdefender-quickscan/

Let's see if we can solve this issue if you don't mind :)

3Al62Pm.pngMiniToolBox
  • Download MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;
  • Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:
    • List Installed Programs;
    • List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;
      Yjt97o0.png
  • Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;
  • Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Please copy/paste the content of the output log in your next reply;

You can uninstall Adobe Reader X (10.1.13), it's outdated. What version of Internet Explorer do you have? Also, did you try reinstalling Microsoft Silverlight yet?
