Hi All,

I have done it again !!!!

My OS is Windows 8.1 (Single Language).

For the past 2 days my windows update has not been working. I am getting Windows Update Error 8024402F.

I have tried a lot of things including System Restore which I found out is also not working properly.  It seems all my restore points are corrupted so I deleted all of the and now cannot create a new point (see attached photo).

Please help me to fix these 2 problems.

I have used FixWin from Windows Club, it says it created a restore point for me but there is none. I also tried SCF and as usual it said it fixed some but not all files.

Also tried Microsoft FixIt but that didn't work either.

I tried start repair and it said it cannot repair whatever's wrong.

I am at wits end. I very recently did a Refresh and am almost finished downloading programs I want to reinstall, I really want to avoid redoing that again mainly because I only have a 3G internet connection which is slow and very expensive.

I have worked through the night on fixing these problems and will keep pushing because I have work to do and need my laptop running smoothly.

HELP !!!!!!!!!

Am searching the net now to learn how to re-install windows update.....

Thanks,

Robert

Hi All,

The problem is fixed. :bananas:  :bananas: :bananas:

After trying all the fixes I could find on the net I decided I had to reinstall Windows 8.1. I luckily found a site with instructions on how to do a non-destructive reinstall, exactly what I needed.

Lots of windows info to be found there. For anybody interested:

Hi All,

Bad news I'm afraid... :smash:  :hysterical:

The same problems are not only back, they have gotten worse.

The Update in the Charms Update & Recovery just goes on and on doing god knows what until the window just quits on its own.

SystemSettings.exe in immersed something or other is suspended in Processes.

I cannot set IE as default browser. And a few more things. Looks to me like Windows 8.1 is disintegrating on my computer.

Much as I hate to do it but after finishing this post I am doing a reset to factory settings.

My data is backed up, by file history (gulp), but I lose all my programs. I will reinstall them slowly and selectively hoping to avoid reinstalling the offending program.

Will let you all know how it goes later on.

Cheers,

Robert

@RobertWfr do you get the windows update icon showing in your systems tray? I have a couple of solutions that could fix your problem, without doing a system restore.

Hi All,
It looks like i am still having problems with windows update.
It seems like I cannot connect to the server. Always same error 8024402F.
I have reinstalled clean Windows 8.1 from my CD.
Also tried Tweaking.com's All-In-One repair.
Ran the repair tool from Microsoft several times but still the same.
Now I spend a lot of time on this problem. I don't know what else to do.
The reinstall works for a short time the update problem comes back.
I wish I could charge Microsoft back for having to spend so much time doing manual updates.

So, once again, any suggestions are more than welcome.

Thanks,
Robertwfr
