Avast has started popping up with the message that it has blocked an infection (full message below). This address resolves to:

ec2-54-149-18-16.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com. It will usually pop up within a few minutes (usually seconds) of loading Firefox. After I close the Avast window, it can happen a few (15-30?) minutes later. No exact pattern I've seen.

I've run a full Avast Scan and installed and ran a Malwarebytes scan with no finds. I've run ccleaner to clean things up. I've checked my msconfig to make sure nothing is running that I don't recognize. I've looked at my firefox addons and extensions but nothing unusual.

Netbeans is the only new software I've installed before this started (downloaded directly from them).

I'm a bit stumped. If you have any ideas, I'd appreciate it.

Full Avast Message:

Infection blocked

URL: https://54.149.18.169:443/1.0/sync/1.5

Infection: URL:Mal

Process: C:\path\to\firefox.exe

UPDATE: Forgot to mention that I'm on Windows 7 64 bit.

UPDATE: I reset Firefox. In the process of adding back all my addins and settings, I signed into Sync. Immediately after signing in, the popup happened. I signed out, reloaded Firefox, no issue. Logged back into sync and the same pop-up immediately happened again.

Any clues why this would only happen with sync?

UPDATE 2: I've disabled Flashblock and QuickJs addons. There are the only one's I can't vouch for (my other's are AdBlock Plus, Ghostery, WOT, & Duck Duck Go - all reliable I believe). Still happening...

Thank you for the links. I couldn't get through to the Avast forum last night and I still can't get through now - wonder why. Guess I hit the nail on the head in terms of sync being the culprit. Now it all makes sense - of one kind. What I don't unerstand is why those in charge of the amazon servers can't quickly shut down newly generated malicious sites,
