Hi,

I'm sorry to say I have managed to get my machine infected with sysprotect. It was spyware quake before that...but I got rid of that.

Anyway. I have run roguescanfile and then smitrem offline again. I have resident protection from Symantec corporate and firewall is enabled, as well as Windows defender.

Done a disk cleanup in safe mode. And also ran a Ad-Aware & Eiwo scans in safe mode. Ad-aware found a few cookies and one entry. Fixed that. Eiwo only found two trackers. Rebooted and did a BItdefender8 Free Edition scan and a Symantec scan. Both found nothing. This is what my Hijackthis log looks like after all that (the computer is offline):

Please rename HijackThis.exe to Scan.exe (or similar).

Then post a fresh log. You might have one of the newest Vundo infections.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying Vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK.
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once the scan is complete, right-click inside the listbox (white box) and click Add more files
  • Copy & paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\fcyxy.dll
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\yxycf.*
  • Click Add Files and click Close Window.
  • Click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a fresh HiJackThis log.

Alright, lets continue. Go ahead and delete VundoFix

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

Run Ewido Anti-spyware and update its definitions:
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-select "Only if threats were found"
Close Ewido Anti-spyware, DO NOT run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
  • IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while Ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
  • Lauch Ewido Anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • Ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close Ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.
==

Once that is done,

Download GMER:
  • Unzip it and double-click GMER.exe
  • Click the rootkit-tab and click scan.
  • Once done, click Copy.
  • This will copy the results to clipboard.
  • Paste the results in your next reply along with the Ewido results. :flowers:

Hey Rawe,

I shift-deleted C:\WINDOWS\system32\ERMLicSrv_atl.exe but then I realised this is a program I use for my work. ER mapper. So I didn't delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\ERM\6.4\ERMLicSrv_ATL64.exe

You'll probably need to reinstall that program.. Unless it still works.

Then we'll update your Java.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > Add/Remove Programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
It should have next icon next to it: Posted Image
    Select it and click Remove.
    • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
    • It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
    • If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
  • After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 CheckedDownloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

I followed the steps but niether the online of offline installation for windows link work at http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

I tried with Explorer and Firefox. There's a blocked ActiveX control in Explorer when I try to check/validate.

So I guess this is on standby? Until the links work, or do I have another problem?

So you can't download, or you can't install them?

Can't you unblock that ActiveX object, doesn't IE ask if it should be blocked or not?

You can try this link: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp

Hey Rawe,

I was able to download the offline installation pack on another computer I installed it and it verified OK. All seems to be good now.

Thanks a lot for your help.

If you PM a mail address, I'll send you something eventually. Cheers!
