Simply right-click on the "cmd" icon that shows up in the Windows Start Menu, and click on Run as Administrator. Simple as that :)

ok, thank you for bearing with me thus far

the scannow found no integrity issues but, alas, i have had no success with the next step of:

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

should I have kept the command prompt open?

xie, you can open the command prompt with Admin Rights again then copy and paste the command Go To Power gave you inside it, it should work :) Also sorry Go To for jumping in this thread, just giving the OP small directives so he can follow your instructions so when you login next time you'll have the log waiting for you.

SFC has repaired a lot of files here.

Please try Windows update again, if it still fails can you please upload a new CBS log (but this time without running SFC /SCANNOW), along with the WindowsUpdate.log? As this error 8007371B refers to a system error, we should be able to spot this error inside the CBS log.

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt
  • Click on the Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg button => Inside the search box copy and paste the following command:
    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • Press Enter
  • Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

Windows Update Log
  • Click on the Start button -> Inside the search box copy and paste the following command
    cmd /c copy %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\WindowsUpdate.txt"
  • Please go to your desktop and attach WindowsUpdate.txt to your next post
