Just a month or so ago, I ran into several computer issues detailed in this topic: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/560964/computer-not-responding-and-blue-screens/ Now a month later after returning my computer to the factory settings, multiple problems from my previous topic are returning, such as slow response time and the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE blue screen. Also, last night my computer wanted me to run a chkdsk because it couldn't retrieve a file, and the chkdsk froze at 13% on stage 4/5.

Hard Drive Diagnostics:

http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure you select the tool which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), to make the CD bootable.
For Toshiba drives, see here: http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=ServicesSupport/FujitsuDrivesUSandCanada/SoftwareUtilities#diagnostic

I got the Drive Fitness Test for the Hitachi drive. The program couldn't detect the drive even after I enter in the serial number.

Sounds as though the drive is dead or dying. I suggest you back up all critical data and replace the drive.
