Server 2008 will not save preferred dns server

Not at all sure if I have two problems or simply two symptoms of the same problem. Am unable to use this server's IP address as the preferred dns server. The other addresses repopulate and move the server down the list. Workstations are unable to login as a result. 


Also, the wscsvc service and the WinDefend service have in their description: <Failed to Read Description. Error Code 2>


Have been unable to repair either of these. Thank you for assisting.

This server referenced running as a dns server?

How many dns servers are you running on your lan?


Post the results of a ipconfig /all from the server and from a workstation for review.
