Im pretty sure i have a virus thats attached to my Chrome browser because when ive had it open for more then an hour, even if i only have like 4 or 5 tabs open in ONE instance of Chrome running, i get the "Low Memory, Chrome must shut down" error message and my browser closes and i have to open it up again, plus while im using it i get popups now, and all kinda weird stuff goin on that wasnt goin on when i firtst got it 2 weeks ago.

I went to the Virus Removal section of this site but i dont know which viruys i have, and i did download the malware removal program and it did detect & quarantine like 5 diffrent things but im still having problems that i shouldnt be having on a brand new system..

oh i fiorgot to mention when i run task manager while my browser is open it shows like a whole bunch of CHROME.exe's running like 20 of em i dont think thats normal either.

i also downloaded this program called autoruns that shows u all the programs that boot up when u start ur computer and gives u the option to turn them off, (although some of them still wont even let u uncheck them)  and i unchecked all the suspicious ones, and it still having issues.

i have a windows 8 HP laptop with a intel celeron n2480 processor

2.00 GB ram  1.89 usable

64 bit op system

Hi udontwantnun :)

Unfortunately, I doubt that your issue is malware related. Google Chrome takes a lot of RAM due to the way it works, sandboxing individual tabs, extensions, plug-ins, etc. into separate processes. I can easily see it taking close to 2GB of RAM in no time. Also, you don't have the best laptop there is, considering it's specs. What I suggest you to do, is to upgrade to Windows 8.1, install all the Windows Updates, once done, uninstall Google Chrome 32-bits, and install the 64-bits version from the Chrome website. On the download page, click on Download for other platforms and select Windows 7/8 64-bits. Under Windows 64-bits, 64-bits based applications will take less RAM than 32-bits ones since these are emulated, therefore requiring additional resources. Once this is done, let me know :)

How many extensions do you have in Google Chrome, and which ones do you have?

Can you go in your Task Manager, under the Details tab and click once on the Memory column? This will order the processes by memory usage. From there, take a screenshot of what you see and post it here.

How to take a screenshot using the Snipping Tool
Follow the instructions below to take a screenshot using Windows' Snipping Tool:
  • Press on the Win Key + R to open the Run box;
  • Enter SnippingTool and press on Enter;
  • The Snipping Tool will open, asking you to choose the area to take in the screenshot;
  • Left click on the area where you want to start the screenshot, keep it, and drag the cursor across the screen;
  • Once done, release the left button to take the screenshot;
  • In the editing window, click on the File menu then Save As;
  • Save the screenshot in a folder that you can access easily;
  • Once done, attach that screenshot to your next reply;

You have to click on the More Reply Options button, then it'll be below the text box.

I would uninstall AVG since it's known to be quite a resource hog. I would install a light-weight Antivirus instead. The most light-weight free one you can get is Panda Cloud Antivirus:

http://www.cloudantivirus.com/en/

That should help. Let's see your programs:

3Al62Pm.pngList Installed Programs
  • Download MiniToolBox and move it to your Desktop;
  • Execute it by double-clicking on it;
  • Check the "List Installed Programs" checkbox;
    dE2KOUZ.png
  • Click on the Go button;
  • Once the scan is complete, a log will open.
    wRKHMXW.png
  • Copy/paste (select the Notepad, press Ctrl + A then Ctrl + C to copy, and Ctrl + V to paste) the content of the output log in your next reply;

I see that you still have Google Chrome 32-bits installed, hence why you didn't notice a difference yet.
