Welcome,

Please tell us a bit more about your system. Are your programs and drivers current? the OS up to date? What is your security program and is it current? Have you run any scans?

if you have installed the windows 8.1 update recently then its probably trying to install or download other updates which can spike up the disk usage. If it not the case,

Then try disabling superfetch and windows search services from services.msc and restart your system.

Let me know how it goes for you

Sorry to hear that.

So is the system booting up, if no what is the error that you are getting. Try doing a start up repair if its not starting up.

Follow the below link to perform a startup repair.

Actually there are many reasons of slow but it seems that according to your problem, there might be some junk files in registry or more number of start up items are there. So, first use computer cleaning software to get rid of the crap files and defrag your drive as well. And then reduce the number of start up items. Keep only those which are necessary. At last, boot your computer in safe mode. See if it helps.
