Hello there,

If you are running Windows 7 then I do not recommend you use gadgets, as they can lead to the machine being exploited by malware.

Well -- only in that they're executables and people don't expect them to be. There's nothing exploitable about the gadget mechanism itself other than users not associating .gadget with "program".
