Hi, I've been having this problem for a few days now.  The internet works on all my other devices except my main desktop that is wired in.  I tried contacting Comcast and having them give me a new ip address but they said that they only do that for business accounts and not residential.  Since I went through the trouble of talking to them I had them reset the router and the technician said that my Netgear router was the one assigning the ips so I had to talk to that support.  He also said I was getting internet to the house.  I talked with Netgear and after an hour on the phone they weren't helping me so I stopped the call (they make you purchase a $40 one time fee for them helping you if they fix it which they didn't since I had them stop).

I found that info about getting a new ip here:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/55aa9f24-e8ea-4743-8e04-120decfb6122/local-area-connection-doesnt-have-a-valid-ip-configuration-w7?forum=w7itpronetworking

I've also tried using the windows all in one repair found on this forum and that didn't help either.  It gave me like 11 logs so I figured I'd just post the most relevant ones.  If needed I can provide more.  Anyways here's my ipconfig /all and the logs for the all in one repair.  Any help is much appreciated.

Hi,

first of all, try plugging  the ethernet  cable directly  to Comcast modem and check if it helps to connect to internet .

log into your Netgear router and see what ip address range is set for lan connections . It must  be starting  with either 10.xxx.xxx.xxx or 192.168.xxx.xxx

Currently, you have a link local  ip assigned , which may also indicate  some err in connection . Swap the ethernet  cable  with a probably  working  one and check.

To check connectivity , try 'ping 192.168.1.1' (assuming, 192.168.1.1 is you router 's ip)

Keep in touch ....

Try opening Cmd,

Click start and type cmd in the box, right click on cmd and click on run as administrator.

the cmd black window will open with full admin rights.

type ipconfig /release and hit enter.

next type ipconfig /renew and hit enter.

that will release the current ip and renew as a new ip for the device on your network.

In the ipv4 section there you have ip 169.254.232.44

that means you are not being assigned a proper ip on the network for your device.

Your internal ip would be something like 192.168.10 or simliar.

Edit didn't notice the person above me commented while i was type, so yeah that's stuff to check too.

The ip for my devices are: 192.168.1.26 and 192.168.1.3

Not sure where to check the actual range of the LAN connections. The ethernet is directly plugged into the Comcast modem.

Thanks for the reply.

What is your netgear model?

Have you tried changing  ethernet cable and check?

are the other devices  connected wirelessly? Anyway , they get valid ips.

Other than  that, try uninstall your network  adapter  driver , clean up your machine's temp  files using Cleaner option of Ccleaner

Restart, and install updated driver from vendor

Good news. I plugged in the ethernet cable to my sister's laptop then plugged it back into my computer and then it worked!  Do you think that this is a more permanent solution or only a temporary fix?

Here's my sister's logs and then mine followed:

PING: transmit failed. General failure usually indicates hardware failure, firewall interference or the need of an updated driver.

Thanks for the update. I was sleepy while I replied last time (3 am was tooo late for bed.) Glad to hear you got it fixed. May be it was due to the ethernet cable was not properly connected to your lan port or router and upon reconnecting, everything became okay.
