Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5547. It used to run Windows 8, but I got tired of dealing with the various problems it had, so I downgraded to Windows 7. I have an issue whenever I am watching a video online, I get a horizontal line across the video. I have no idea why. Can someone please help me with this issue?

Hi jashtiani :)

Since you did a clean reinstall of Windows 7, you might be missing a few drivers, your graphic card drivers included. Let's see what we can find here.

OlT01aD.pngDxDiag Log
Follow the instructions below to create a dxdiag log and post it in your next reply.
  • Press on the Win Key + R keys to bring up the Run menu;
  • Enter dxdiag in the box and press on Enter;
  • If a message comes up asking you if you want to check if your drivers are digitally signed or not, click on Yes;
  • Once the dxdiag report window open, wait for it to load completely. The progress bar is in the bottom left corner;
  • Click on the Save All Information... button, then save the file on your Desktop as dxdiag.txt;
  • Open the text file, then copy/paste all the content in your next reply;
mYEYEX7.pngDevice Manager
Follow the instructions below for your version of Windows to open the Device Manager and list the Other devices present in it;
  • On Windows XP, right-click on My Computer, then go to the Hardware tab and click on Device Manager;
  • On Windows Vista and Windows 7, open the Windows Start Menu, right-click on Computer and select Properties;
  • On Windows 8, bring your cursor in the bottom-left corner of the screen, wait for the metro preview to show then right-click on it and select Device Manager;
  • On Windows 8.1, right-click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner of the screen and select Device Manager;
  • From the System window, click on Device Manager in the left pane;
  • List every devices showing under Other devices. If nothing shows, you might have to click on the little arrow on the left to make the list appear;

Aura, thank you for replying. I am so appreciative that someone would be willing to help me!

The only device showing under other devices is Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller.

Here are the dxdiag.txt file contents:

Please download and install the following drivers:

http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER02152099M/1/Chipset_Driver_M6X6G_WN_3.0.0.16_A00.EXE
http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER02151786M/2/Video_Driver_Y25KH_WN_10.18.10.3496_A00.EXE

I suggest you to restart your laptop after each installation. Also, when you go in the Device Manager, what is listed under Display Adapter?

Okay, I downloaded and installed the drivers, restarted after each, and under Device Manager under Display Adapter it says Intel HD Graphics Family.

However, the line is still there!

Is it possible for you to take a screenshot of your screen when you have the horizontal line, and to post it here?

How to take a screenshot using the Snipping Tool
Follow the instructions below to take a screenshot using Windows' Snipping Tool:
  • Press on the Win Key + R to open the Run box;
  • Enter SnippingTool and press on Enter;
  • The Snipping Tool will open, asking you to choose the area to take in the screenshot;
  • Left click on the area where you want to start the screenshot, keep it, and drag the cursor across the screen;
  • Once done, release the left button to take the screenshot;
  • In the editing window, click on the File menu then Save As;
  • Save the screenshot in a folder that you can access easily;
  • Once done, attach that screenshot to your next reply;

It's an issue with Google Chrome. When you right-click on a Youtube video, you should see an option About .... The ... is the name of the player used. Which one is it, HTML5 or Flash?
