Hi there and welcome to Bleeping Computer !
As you may have noticed already, the forums are very busy at the moment and i have noticed your log has gone unanswered so far!
We look at the oldest logs first, and we were wondering that if you still need help, please start by posting a new HijackThis log in this topic and i will then be able to take a look!

Thanks very much
David

Hey gabberdaw.

You have a file on your computer which I'm sure is safe, however the infomation we have on the file in out startup database is lacking and we need to analyse the file to understand its default location, its purpose etc. Go to this page.
Enter the url of this thread in the first field.
Where it says, browse to the file that you want to submit, copy and paste next in the field:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\usb.exe

Then click the Send File button below.

*Now start a new scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items (if present):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

* Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed and click on "Fix Checked" and exit HijackThis when finished.

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if still present:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ALCXMNTR.EXE

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.]

Download http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/winpfind.php

Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe. When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to scart scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while. When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.

David
p.s. Please let me know the exact yahoo error you are getting when you try to install it. Please also post your system specs and tell me when these problems started (ie gradually or staight away)

The error message for yahoo is:

Welcome!: yahoo.exe - Bad Image
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\MSCTF.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

The WinPFind log is as follows:

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Hey there,

Well I see no traces of malware on your system at all.
In regards to your Yahoo question, you might like to ask your question here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/14/web-browsingemail-and-other-internet-applications/

The cause of your slow downs are not due to malware. Firstly, please read the selfhelp instructions which can be found here. Please use those instructions as a guide to speed up your computer. You will follow a number of steps to clear the clutter from your PC, and also quicken your startup time etc...

David
