On some forums i have used a user can go back and edit a post of theirs however long ago thye made it. why on this site does the ability to edit posts get disabled after a certain time period (on the order of two days i think), sometimes one wishes to re-word the way one said something or remove private information one accidentaly typed but didn't realise was there for weeks but being unable to edit old posts can sometimes stop this. Also where's the harm in a user being able to edit their own posts in the case where no-one else has posted to the thread since them? Or would allowing this be something which would cause problems for the way the site is coded or the way searching for posts works?

P.S. this isn't a request to moderators to please edit an old post for me, i might have such a request some day but not at the moment.

Hi there,

Normal users can edit their posts up to 24 hours after posting or before the first reply, whichever is closer.

As far as I know only Moderators, Global Moderators, the two Study Hall Admins and the site Admins (Grinler, Blade, Animal) have the power to edit any post they want to. For your second question of editing a post in an abandoned thread, you will have to ask one of the people I mentioned above :)

Because people abused it by deleting their posts, deleting comments they made and saying they didnt make them, or by just editing their post instead of replying (yes this happened). I can't imagine why you need more than 24 hours to edit a post with info that can't just be added to a new post.
