Hi, (I posted this earlier by mistake in win98 to I'm putting it here in xp)

I have xp and everything works fine except I notice that lately when I open up "help" in a program (a totally unrelated program--HP label maker kit today it happened in), the whole help "box" opens up in dreamweaver!

the other day I can't remember if it was another program or a link in I.E. or what; but I clicked on help, or something, to open up text, and it opened up in dreamweaver also!

I guess I must have dreamweaver set as some sort of default somewhere, but I can't find it. It's when I expect regular text to open up, that it opens in dreamwaver. It's not the programs themselves that open in dreamweaver, just the help stuff or something.

can anyone help?
thanks.

If you know what file extensions are incorectly associated you can check and change them by going to your control panel, clicking on "Folder Options", selecting the "File Types" tab, and examining the file extensions and their default associations.

You can change any that are worng.

If you know the exact date that this problem began you can use Windows System Restore to revert your system to a previous system state which may correct the problem.

Start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore.

Hi,
I don't know how to tell "what file extensions are incorectly associated"
because, unfortunately, I don't really know what that means.

so I'm not sure what to do from here; any help from anyone would be appreciated;
I have noticed so far that this problem is happening in two areas

1. when I open this cute pdf writer thing (the help section) it opens in dreamweaver
2. when I open hp label kit, help, it opens in dreamweaver

thanks in advance!

I went in to control panel, folder options, and clicked on file types

I found many extensions for things that look like dreamweaver (the d on the very left that looks like the same d in dreamweaver)

under "extensions" (some lines have the green d for dreamweaver and some of the d's with the same looking d are grayed out instead of green) I found the following lines:

d ASA active server page
d ASAC active server applic file
d ASCS web user control
d ASP active server page
d ASPX web form
d CDX active server page
d CFC macromedia coldfusion comp file
d DWT DWT file
d HTM htm file
d JS java script script file
d JSP jscript script code
d LBI lbi file (this is one of the ones that the d is not green)
d LBL lbl file ( another one that the d is not green)
d MNO mno file
d PHP php script
d PHP3 php3 file
d PHP4 php4 script

not sure what all this means
are all these correct?
should I change something? if so, what? and how?!

I didn't make note of every single one in which the d is green
why are some green and others not?

thanks

oh...
so I guess all the things that are listed with a "d" are irrelevant then and I was supposed to be looking at HLP only?...

anyway, I went to your screenshot; it was helpful; thanks...but problem is not solved

I highlited the HLP and went to advanced button, and open and edit; it DOES say:

"C:\WINDOWS\System32\winhlp32.exe%1"

just as you cited it should say in your screenshot, which as you stated means that this is the application used to open help files

and the problem is still happening! yikes! I don't know what to do now...

so far I've noticed it in "HP label kit" and the "Cute pdf writer" programs

(it works fine with word, picasa, and spybot; when I click on "help" in those, they open to the regular help section; but maybe that's totally unrelated?)

any ideas anyone? thanks!
