I just got a used Acer Aspire 3000-3004 I'm not sure.  It says 3004 on back but 3000 on everything else.  I first started it and opened IE to get Chrome installed, but IE was scrolling on it's own.  I thought this might be some kind of infection so I came here first to find out.  Has someone taken over this pc?  Wanted to get some advice before I even did a scan with free AVG antivirus.  I also have Recovery discs if that is the beast way to go, and, considering it is Used - perhaps this is the best thing to do.  I have another Laptop running Linux if needed, this new used laptop will be for Windows needs.

In System Properties I removed the Tick in the box for "Allow Remote invitations to be sent from this compter"

It says 2GB of Virtual memory, that means it's got 2 GB of RAM right?

Another question: The C:Drive says that only 10GB is being Used and 69.6 of free space.  Is that possible with an XP install, seems very small to me.

XP Home Edition 32bit SP3 Buid 2600

X86-based PC

Mobile AMD Sempron™ Processor 3100+ 1.58 GHz PAE Enabled

1.43GB of RAM

AVG Antivirus

2GB memory

Thanks pcpunk

I think I got it guys.  I Reset the mousepad default settings with a few exceptions and now appears to work ok, not impressed with the mouse pad in general though.

O-boy, this laptop is mess.  The battery does not work, which is okay, but, the mouse pad is not working either - and that was the initial problem.  Now the mouse pad does not work at all for scrolling, and, my Logitech mouse won't work with it, wah wah lol, that sucks!

Also guys, how do I look at my partitions in XP?

Hello,

Partitions can be seen by:

  1. Right-click on My computer.
  2. Click on Manage.
  3. In the left pane, click on disk management.

There you will see all your partitions...

Thanks RJND! I will do that as soon as I am back on that pc.  As you know I was able to see the partition sizes while hovering over those drives in My Computer.

I have figured out one thing here, the mouse pad does work-because it works when I am in the windows dialoge boxes, and PDF's.  Still looking into weather to re-install or repair, be patient guys.
