For an anti-malware program, I'm using SUPERAntiSpyware. I had been satisfied with it until recently...I'm not sure if it's doing its job. For example, when the scan in running and at the beginning of the scan it seems to be scanning suspicious files (i.e. C:\Program Files\Surf Sidekick 3) but it isn't saying it is a threat and I can't even find this file on my computer; also I have used other anti-malware programs and they don't seem to find or run across suspicious files. It doesn't help that lately I've been seeing videos and reading about how SUPERAntiSpyware isn't picking up infections compared to other anti-malware programs.

Here's the thing - I've used Malwarebytes and have heard that it's great. However I have had problems running them on both of my computers. The one has a hard time loading if I leave Malwarebytes installed on it, so I can't leave it installed on there. The other one I have, the last two times I've used it, something goes wrong (I haven't seen it, but all I know is that the computer restarts itself and I'm told that it didn't shut down normally and creates a dump file). So I haven't been wanting to use Malwarebytes.

Are there any other good anti-malware programs (preferably free) out there other than these two that would be good for a regular basis?

If MBAM doesn't work for you, you can try Emsisoft Anti-Malware.

Did it ever cross your mind that there might be software conflict between Malwarebytes and one of your installed program (or Antivirus)? Or that one of your system is infected and therefore it conflicts with the Malwarebytes installation? I would try to check these before giving up on using it since it works well on every Windows system I worked with. Also, SuperAntiSpyware is more of an advanced cookie cleaner if you ask me, but these are far from being malware, or harmful. You can easily install web extensions that will take care of them or clean your temp files to delete them. They aren't a real threat to your security.

For any issues with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0 the development team recommend you start a new topic in the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Help Forum and report them there.

After looking it up on the Internet, that could be a possibility, but the thing is, I have used Malwarebytes before and never had this problem. Other people have seemed to have a similar problem with the new version.

I guess I should consult with them before running Malwarebytes again. Thank you for posting that.

If you want I can help you verify that there's no software conflict affecting Malwarebytes. However, you'll have to go in the malware removal section for a malware check up after.

Yes...If one of the Staff or Honorary Members ask you to run some "Diagnostic Logs", please refer to this topic and post the logs in your original Malwarebytes topic, not here. They need to know what the problem is so they can advise other users how to correct it.

No problem. However I guess you'll go with quietman's proposition of asking help on the Malwarebytes forums, which is as good, if not more efficient so good luck with it! :) Feel free to let us know what the issue was.

The OP asked me to check for software conflict with Malwarebytes, I'll take a look in this thread since we don't provide assistance via PM here I think.

I have a question before posting - after the last time Malwarebytes malfunctioned on my computer, I uninstalled it. Do I need to reinstall it or will it not have any effect on the log?

By policy, members are not permitted to provide help via PM or email as it defeats the purpose of forums. Further, it prevents the staff from monitoring the information provided which in turn prohibits our ability to ensure the instructions are trustworthy, safe and appropriate. Exchanging information this way places our members at risk if something goes awry.

There is no need to reinstall it in order to examine the output of the MiniToolbox log...which is only showing all installed software.
