replaced hard drive cannot connect to internet

Replaced hard drive
installed windows
windows updates via wireless adapter and does not see the adapter
USB stick
drivers were installed 
Tried windows update through LAN and computer will not see ethernet cable
Sony Vaio Laptop
Win 7 OS
