Here is a question I received through email:

Am using current Spybot 1.3 with Win 98 SE.

I never realized I should occasionally do "Purge Selected Files" and have a ton of items there, going back years.

When I check them off and hit "Purge Selected Items", nothing happens and Ctrl/Alt/Delete says "Spybot Not Reponding".

Is there a folder I can go to that contains these backup materials so that I can eliminate them and thus start with a normal-type Recovery/Purge Selected items functionality?

Other ideas?

If you are having problems where Spybot - S&D crashes when you try to purge the backed up items in the Recovery section you can use this method to purge those backups:

Spybot - S&D stores its backups of the items it fixed in a directory on your hard drive.

This directory for NT, 2000, or XP is:

C:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy

The direcotry for 95, 98 and ME (Not positive on me):

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy

Under that directory you will see a Recovery directory. You can delete the backed up items that Spybot - S&D fixed by removing them from this directory. Clicking on the recovery button in Spybot will not reflect these changes until you restart the program.

Comment on Head Bleeper:

Worked perfectly.

One puzzle:

Overview.ini file in Spybot\Recovery folder is now empty/"0 kbs".

Is this a bad sign?

Overview.ini needs to be replaced? How?

Thanks.

I have 0kb overview.ini as well and it does not seem to stop me from running scans, fixing items, and restoring.

A uninstall/reinstall may not be a bad thing to try though now that I think about it
