My name is Bill, I'm a retired Mechanical Engineer, I am also an A+ certified technition. For the past 4 years, I volunteered 2 days a week at a nonprofit organization repairing and refurbishing pc's and printers. This organization served the disability community. Thse computers were rented or sold and provided a revenue stream. Most of this equipment was HP and Dell. The majority of problems I solved were hardware. Software issues were usually harder to solve and required much more time to resolve. Having good resources in your "toolbag" is an essential part of being a tech. These forums are some of my most trusted information sources.
