Hello BC,

I am running Ubuntu 14.04, and the only way I can move a file to the desktop is by entering the commands listed below. Does anyone know of a way that I would be able to just drag, and drop the applications? Thank you for your time.

sudo cp /usr/share/applications/filename.desktop ~/Desktop

and

sudo chmod +x ~/Desktop/filename.desktop

Is this what you wanted. From Ask Ubuntu

  1. Right click the file you want a link to in your file manager.
  2. Select "Create link" from the context menu.
  3. Move that link wherever you want it.

In the case of application launchers, they're placed in /usr/share/applications/. The procedure is identical.
