Hello. I've run across the strangest thing. Right now I have a friends computer at my house and it is working fine. When it's at her house there are all kinds of issues with typing, the cursor jumps to the address bar randomly when typing in a box such as this. Keys will repeat and other odd happenings. Yes I'm using the same keyboard. I tried a different keyboard at her house and it was doing different weird things like when at the beginning of a line and hitting end takes the cursor to the end but highlights everything in between. Again same hardware kb, mouse and at my house it works perfect. It is a refurb I bought for her with win7 and she hasn't had it long. She is also on dialup, YUCK! but I did take my wifi stick and use it over my phones hotspot and it exhibited the same behavior.

Could this be electrical? There are no virus or malware on it. I've run malwarebytes and superantispyware which  come up with nothing other than some tracking cookies.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would say it is a good chance it is electrical because that is about the only thing different between houses. There may be some type of electrical interference going on. Has she tried plugging the computer into a different circuit in the home? Does it do the weird things when not connected to the phone line? Do you know of anyone who could loan a UPS with AVR (automatic voltage regulation)?

Thanks. That is what I was thinking also. I never thought to unplug the modem while I was there. I guess I'll get a UPS with AVR and take it back to her house tomorrow and first try another plug without the modem. If it works fine there then I'll try where she did have it without the modem. If it works fine would a line conditioner help or?

I never thought of the line conditioner. That may work but you would give up the UPS part if the power failed.
