Hi guys.

I've been part of MFDnSC's family for the past few days and he (is it a he?) has been brilliant at helping me to clear my system of unwanted visitors. I have XP SP2, AVG antivirus, ZA firewall and Ad-aware and hopefully a clear system. Initial problem was very slow system, CPU at 100%, wareout and various others.

Following on from his help I have a few anomalies that I'd like to check out so that I can get back to where I was initially. It's also to stop me getting paranoid that there's nothing back on my PC.

So:

When I boot, MS Security Centre tells me that AVG Antivirus is turned off. Sometimes get the same message about ZA Firewall. Hoever when I check, both of these are active

Connect To in the Administrator panel when I press Start keeps disappearing.

The flashing screen in my Tray which indicates that Broadband is connected has disappeared. Also Network Connections indicates that Broadband is disconnected even when it is connected. Together with the lack of the flashing screen, this means that I can't tell whether I'm connected or not.

When Task Mgr comes on it shows CPU usage as 100% for a second and then goes to 2% - ish. Due to previous problems, the paranoia begins to kick in ...

I also added IP addresses 85.255.116.86 and 85.255.112.157 to Zone Alarm Firewall zones in order to prevent my internet connection to Tiscali broadband dropping. I found these addresses under Network Connections - Networking - Connection Properties. Is this OK and how do I find the IP addresses of other sites I wish to add in future?

Many thanks for your help.

D.
