Hello Elmer many times this is not a virus.
It is a common misconception amongst people that About Blank is a virus. About Blank, as the name suggests, is a blank page. Internet Explorer like the other browsers displays the about blank page when it has to display a blank page. About blank does nothing more than display a blank page - See more at: http://howtech.tv/network-security/what-is-about-blank-virus/#sthash.vxxBh700.dpuf

First change your homepage to what you want t to be.
Change your home page for Internet Explorer

Has that solved it?

It sounds to me like your home page may be cached and that internet explorer is malfunctioning in general if it's giving you that about:blank page every time you click on a link. I'd start by running the "sfc /scannow" command in an elevated command prompt.

Internet Explorer's Internet Options (and other browsers) have several choices for setting your Home Page under the General Tab: "Use current", "Use default", "Use blank". The trusted blank page setting in Internet Explorer is also called about:blank. About is an Internal URI scheme. The "Use blank" page setting is exactly what it means...start Internet Explorer with a blank page. This is beneficial for a variety of reasons to include opening the browser faster since there are no images, ads, etc that slow the loading of a page. Various other web browsers use about:blank to display certain built-in functions. Several years ago there was a CWS hijacker with the same name and some folks who inadvertently use that setting and do a Google Search erroneously believe they are infected.

Well, I've never seen an issue like that before so I'm not entirely sure what to do, but if you could download adwcleaner or jrt on another browser/another pc and import it onto that one via flash drive, I'd start there. See if they find anything.

Perhaps you have more than about blank.

To get a deeper look...Please follow this Preparation Guide, do steps 6,7 and 8 and post in a new topic.
Let me know if all went well.

Not sure I follow you, but you may need to adjust the Tab settings:
