a guy at church gave me a computer that had bad luck finding drivers for post installing win98. I opened up my desktop and found out that the video card in the computer is an "ati radeon 7000 64mb "c3d 6051"" but Google hates that term. it says no results for: ati radeon 7000 64mb "c3d 6051" and then it searches without quotes with the closest being an eBay result for the video card "c3d 6053" not "c3d 6051". I put in a sound card, a "creative labs ct5803" I had in a box for awhile which was an easy driver to find since I had no clue on what sound the gateway G6-300 (LPmini-tower) had even after opening it up. but I prefer the original sound drivers for the machine. I need a Ethernet driver as well, and a USB PCI driver for 1 thing which puzzles me because win98 has drivers for all other USB ports. there are a few other drivers missing. it is impossible to find old drivers on the internet for old operating systems like this. there is a sticker on the front of the machine "designed for windows 98". so drivers are somewhere around but I suck at Google searching. I can provide SN number if it helps any, but Google hated the number as well.

any one of you techies know where the missing drivers are on the www?

Download the Catalyst driver here. If you look at the release notes, your 7000 is supported.

thanks for your help. can you locate these?

I don't know how to find vendor or device ID on win98, I only know on winxp. if I can get instructions to find them to help you out, I'd appreciate

Can you give a make and model for the computer?

Getting unknown drivers for Windows 98 is a little trickier than Windows XP and later. You can download Unknown Device Identifier. What I am looking for is a Vendor and Device ID along with a Subsys identification for each of your devices.

Yes, The software was made for Windows 98. Also, download CPUz for Windows 98 here and run it. Under the Motherboard tab post what the chipset and southbridge chips are.

the unknown device identifier errors out with "test exceeds memo capacity" then closes on all attempts to run. CPUz says "file system error 1026" any other suggestions?

Does this computer have a intel CPU or an AMD CPU? It may help to also give the serial number on the back of the computer. Does the computer have a integrated Ethernet chipset or is it a separate Ethernet card using a slot. PCI communication device I believe would be the modem. Is this something you would be using?

Edit: See if this utility can find your unknown hardware names. Download version 1.2

Sorry about that. Go ahead and download v1.4. Hopefully it will find the devices. Can you confirm something? Download the Gateway E4200 manual here. From what I have read, the g6-300 is a model of the e4200. Does tha back of the computer look like the one on page 19?

I would edit your post to remove the Windows 98 key.

Edit: The above info will help.

Edit: For Ethernet go here and use the dropdown boxes to select your OS, Network, SIS900. I am not sure but the link may take you directly to the download page for the SIS Ethernet adapter with a Capcha

Edit Edit: For the USB controller go here.

Step 1 Windows

Step 2 Windows 98SE

Step 3 USB

Step 4 USB 2.0

Download

Download version 270p OS supported Windows XP,Windows 2000,Windows ME,Windows 98SE,Windows 98 Chips supported USB 2.0 (VT6202, VT6212, VT6214/L)

It will probably be tomorrow before I can get the modem and audio driver.
