Hi, i've got XP Home Edition on an Acer Aspire 3680. I just installed everything onto it, drivers and all, and found that using the internet over ethernet doenst work. theres no yellow ? marks on the Device manager screen, repairing the connection doenst work and neither did flushing the DNS. another thing to note: i right clicked on the Lan Adapter and found that it doenst have a TCP/IPv4 Protocol... or a 6.... dunno if thats supposed to be like that or not. at this rate, i wonder if i should just buy an Ethernet to USB Adapter to save me the trouble...

any ideas?

If tcp/ip isn't installed on the adapter you should do that first.  I would say getting a new adapter is premature.  Add the protocols and the Microsoft client and then see if you get access.  If not post the results of a ipconfig /all for review.
