I have recently restored my Windows 8 laptop. Ever since I have been asked to activate Windows, but upon entering the key am given the prompt "This Key didn't work. Please check it and try again, or try a different key."

I have attempted multiple times to contact customer service, but they have been absolutely no help. I have tried every other method of activation I can think of, including over the phone and through the command prompt, but to no avail.

 What do I do?

Hello,

License Information (Windows 8)
  • Right click on the aa922834-ed43-40f1-8830-d5507badb56c_39. button
  • Click on Command prompt =>
  • Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command
    licensingdiag.exe -report "%userprofile%\Desktop\report.txt" -log "%userprofile%\Desktop\repfiles.cab"
  • Once finished please go to your desktop -> You will see two files report.txt and repfiles.cab -> Please select both files and add them into a zip file
  • Upload this zip file to your next reply

Microsoft maintains multiple Product Activation Centers worldwide to provide assistant and telephone support for activation issues. The correct telephone number is based on product and location.

USA users can call Microsoft directly at (866) 234-6020 or 1-800-MICROSOFT (642-7676):

I have tried Microsoft multiple times. They always take me through the exact same process, which never works. Hence I am on this site.

Figured out a solution myself.

Re installing Windows 8 from the Microsoft Store.
