I bought a telly from BestBuy during Black Friday http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-55-class-54-6-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-black/9033014.p?id=1219386604328&skuId=9033014 to be exact. Come the New Year's I upgraded my card to a MSI 980 GTX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127834 to be exact. For some reason my telly won't recognize the computer when I switch the resolution to 4k. It will just sit at 1920 x 1080. I've upgraded the drivers and made sure the old drivers are uninstalled and am running out of options.

I have noticed that HDMI cords only recognize 3820x2160 at 30fps and I need a DisplayPort (?) cord. I know my GPU hax a few ports for that, but I can't tell if my telly does. It has this TV One Connect port that looks similar.

Wait... I guess HDMI 2.0 cords support 3820x2160 at 60fps. I can't tell on BestBuy if the HDMI ports are 1.4 or 2.0 or if it is just the cord that matters.

Well I looked up that TV's manual and it says the highest resolution when connected to computer is 1920 x 1200

However on the nvidia forums theres conflicting information you may check out this thread for the video card.

While looking for the manual I see there is a bios update for your TV dated Jan. 4th.

You may want to contact Samsung Support to get better support on what you need to get this to work .. if it works at all.

Funny enough, I actually hooked it up to my telly with 3820x2160 and lowered the refresh rate down to 30 and it worked on my Desktop on my telly. I then tried loading up Lords of the Fallen (terrible game, but I know it supports 4k) and it would load, but then when I switched it to 3820x2160 the screen would go black. You can't drop that game down to 30hz so I have no way of testing if it would work at that resolution at 30hz. The only other thing I can try is to get an HDMI 2.0 cable and see if that helps, because those allegedly support 3820x2160 at 60fps. And I have no idea how to update the firmware on my telly.

EDIT: Never mind, I found the option to update my telly and it says it was last updated November 27th and there are no new updates available. At version 1060.

I tried turning on that UHD color mode On like they say, and it doesn't seem to do anything.

Max resolution for TV:  3840x2160

Max resolution for card:  4096x2160

If the intermediate resolutions work properly (anything less than the max for either item...then you have no problem, IMO.

I've got an HDMI 2.0 cable on the way. It seems like that should fix my problem.
