Appears to have acquired a virus asking for money..ransom??

My avast subscription expired yesterday and I quickly availed of a 'free trial' with AVG...this evening I appear to have one of those screens pop up which says money needs to be sent as computer locked by authorities has just appeared on computer screen .....not sure whether virus, trojan rootkit etc ...assistance in rectifying whatever this is would be most appreciated...my operating system is windows 7

With the information you have provided I believe you will need help from the malware removal team. I would like you to start a new thread HERE and include a link to this thread. Please make sure that you read the information about getting started before you start your thread.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient. Help is on the way!

Does the ransomware screen look like the one shown in this topic?...New PClock CryptoLocker Ransomware discovered (fake CryptoLocker)
