I did a clean install on my HP Laptop this morning due to it having a massive hang time upon booting and when it shut down. During the updates from HP it always installs a new BIOS and i was wondering if that was the fault because this happened last time i did a clean install and it fixed itself. The Laptop is windows 8 64bit.

Most ram measurements are indeed true, but being it's a laptop, (same with onboard GPU on a processor) it will share some memory with that. Video cards have a processor and memory. Your APU/ Onboard graphics use your RAM for the video memory, while your APU/ Onboard will run the frames.. Hope this helps, I'm using an APU with 8 gigs memory, with only 7.2 for use due to this hardware share.

On systems with integrated graphics a portion of your system ram is used for graphics.

Forgot to say after restarting the computer a few times and choosing default settings in the bios i got the full 8GB of memory back. So it basically fixed itself like last time lol.
