Hi All,

My son had a new laptop for christmas running Win 8 and i want to update it to Win 8.1 which i need the product key to do. As no documentation was provided i used Balac Advisor to find the key but when i imputed this it said it was the wrong one.

What do i need to do to get the correct one?

All you should need to do is download and install 8.1 from the windows store. I believe Microsoft is still offering this (it was free last I knew).

Try these instructions.

OS - Ubuntu 14.04/16.04 & Windows 10
Custom Desktop PC / Lenovo Y580 / Sager NP8258 / Dell XPS 13 (9350)

I have done this on three computers. Be patient getting all the Windows 8 updates. Let them come in automately, it can take a day to complete. 8.1 will not install until you have successfully installed all the updates.
