Hello everyone,

I was previously getting help in the topic: "Internet Explorer Toolbar 4.9 by Sweetpack", But My computer is still acting up! It was recommended I start a topic here! What do I mean by "My Computer Acting up"? Well:

  1) No matter what Web-Browser I use: Firefox, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer ( all of them Up to date), and enter Yahoo.com the Web-Browser Freezes, my computer Freezes, and it lasts anywhere from 30 seconds to up to 10 minutes or more!!

2) When I Use my one Yahoo Email Account, No matter what Web-Browser I use: Firefox, Google Chrome, or Internet Explorer, Yahoo email will act funny! I will be going through my emails deleting some and moving some to folders. While doing this my email will suddenly stop working! The Page I am viewing will go blank (white), If I am paging/scrolling down or paging/scrolling up the page will stop moving and half of the emails on the page will disappear or not appear! The page "freezes" While it takes several seconds to up to a few minutes to load the "missing" emails! I usually end up "reloading" the page! But sometimes I close the page/window and re-enter Yahoo!

3) Last few days while viewing my Yahoo emails, I received a "message" stating: "there are log-ins from multiple computers/sources, so your email has been temporarily Blocked." This message usually results in the freezing of the email page I am on for a few seconds to about a minute and then either it will disappear or I will have to click on on of 2 options, Which I believe are Restart/Reload and Okay.

4) When I go to start my computer it will sometimes load up very slowly. Same thing when I open up my web-browsers they will load up very slowly. Other times it will start up okay. Same thing happens on shut down. Sometimes it will take "Forever" to shut down! Other times it will be rather quickly, which has been rare as of late!

What have I done? I have done what was recommended to do in the post I mentioned previously. Also I constantly clear my web-browser's cache, will delete cookies about once a month, I defragment my hard-drive about once a month and just did that earlier this morning, I update my antivirus program regularly and do regular scans, I update my other anti-spyware/anti-malware programs regularly and do scans about once a week, I have used other anti-malware programs in the past but they interfered with my web-browser and other programs on my computer so I had to uninstall them! When Something is "Found" by any of my Security Programs I deal with it immediately!!  I usually let the cookies go for a while, but then will delete them if I start to get too many and I usually clear them anyway about once a month.

I have done multiple security scans with multiple antivirus, anti-malware, anti-spyware programs so far and nothing "Major" has been picked up!! I have done everything that I have been recommended to do, But I am still having problems!

The only things I can think of that can be causing my problem:

1) a very deeply hidden Virus, Malware, Spyware

2) 1 or more programs that are installed on my computer are interfering with each other!

3) Due to "Past" Virus, Malware, and Spyware Problems I have had that has caused some damage to my computer's files.

4) There are too many "junk", "Old", "Missing" etc Files. Which can cause some programs to go schizo! lol

5) My Computer needs a good Cleaning/Dusting on the inside!

6) My computer is about 7 years old and is a "Dinosaur" compare to new ones! lol

7) I might be doing something that is causing these problems to happen.

8) A combination of any of the above!

I need help to figure out what in the heck is going on!

Here is the log of the DDS scan I ran:

Hi Groffeaston,
My name is Stragis and I'll be helping you out here. Please allow me some time to review the information you have provided. In the mean time, please refrain from making any additional changes to the infected hard drive as this can make it difficult for me to assist you. Thanks, and I'll post back here as soon as possible!

Hello Groffeaston,

I've looked at your previous topic and current logs. Based on the information I see in the topics most of your reported issues look to be a failing hard drive.
I would like to confirm all your issues are related to a failing hard drive.
Does your yahoo mail have trouble when you use it on other computers? Do the multiple login error messages continue to occur after you change your yahoo mail password?

Best Regards,
Stragis

Hello and thank you for responding. Have not tried accessing Yahoo from a different computer yet. I have not changed my Yahoo email Password since I believe it was about early September 2014 when I last accessed Yahoo from a different computer. The reason I changed my Password, I could not remember my password and the one I had written down and with me, was not correct, so I reset it.

The Multiple Log-ins have stopped it only happened that one night for about a couple of hours. That is why I was concerned that I might have been hacked or have a virus, spyware, malware etc..  But I also noticed on one of their pages either on Facebook or their on website, that Yahoo was having some problems too so that may have been the cause of that. The only thing that Yahoo mentioned about any problems was a very brief message on that one page: "We are experiencing some problems/difficulties and some customers may experience some problems."  No mention of what exactly the problem was or what was causing it. I just presume it was mostly for the European and other Non-North American Customers. Why? Because the people that where commenting about it were from Europe.

I know the one time when I had a virus and malware, and then tried to get rid of it. I had a HECK of a time getting rid of it. It kept reappearing on my computer a couple of times and I had to contact Dell, Microsoft and McAfee for help! The one time I did have to reformat my hard-drive that was not to long after I got my computer so it was not that much of a problem with losing data/files that i had saved because I had not saved that  much as of yet. A few other times when I had problems I had to do "Factory Condition Reset"! That basically reset Windows and some of the other operating system files back to What they were when the computer came from the factory! And somewhere during those first few problems is when the hard drive got damaged. How do I know that? Because when I did a scan of the hard drive back then it showed that the hard drive had "damaged sectors". I was told that it was very likely that either the one virus or malware caused it. And that it may or may not be fixable! I would have to take to a computer Tech to have them check it out! Of Course I never had the $$$ to be able to get it checked out!  And now it seems to have gotten worse!

I will have to wait until at least Monday or Tuesday and go to the Local Library and try to access my Yahoo account from there to see if I have any problems.

Could it also be a lot of Dust? I try to blow the dust out of the vents to keep it from building up, but the dust still builds up on top of the computer case. I use "canned Air" to clear the dust from the vents. As to cleaning the Inside of the computer? I do not trust myself to open up the case and I do not know how to do that, Plus I am afraid I will break something! lol I would have taken my computer to a computer tech to have it done but NO $$$$ or else I would have had it done long ago! Maybe after my parents get their Tax refund I might be able to get my computer checked out. Why? Because they will be paying me back for helping them out! I have money coming to me, but I have to use that to help them out, or else I would use that to get my computer checked out!

If it is not one thing it is another! lol

Hi Groffeaston,

A hard drive re-format is a surefire way to remove a virus form a hard drive. It is important to be aware of how you got infected to prevent reinfection.

Recommended reading material to protect your computer from infection in the future:Viruses and malware do not directly cause damaged sectors. Each sector of a hard drive has a finite lifespan (you can only use it so many times). If you have sector failure within the warranty period (usually dell its one year) they will replace your hard drive. If a hard drive fails you can replace it and reinstall windows. Like a "Factory Condition Reset". Such resets do cause wear and tear on a hard drive more than normal useage. More information on why hard drives fail.

It is good to hear multiple logins warning has stopped.

Dust can be a factor in early failure, though most components are built to stand up to dust. Here is a guide on cleaning the inside of your computer. Its good practice when you clean the vents to blow air "out" and not into the computer case.

I'd like to hear how the login at the library goes. Do you have any further questions about this issue? We have identified the cause of your troubles as a failing hard drive and not likely malware.

Would that also account for my problems with Microsoft's Management Console or MMC? Every time I try to use it I keep getting an error message saying:

"MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly."   This time: "Name: Event Viewer"

CLSID:FX:{b05566ad-fe9c-4363-be05-7a4cbb7cb510}

Every time I use the MMC I get the same message: "MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly."  I do not know if the failing hard drive would cause this or if something else would have cause this. This started way back when, Right after the one Virus/Malware infected my computer and i had to do the reformat of the hard drive and also Factory condition reset. After that the MMC did not work Properly! Then got progressively worse over time and now does not work at all.

Hi Groffeaston

That's a great question. Hard drive failure can cause many things, such as file corruption. One of the reasons you could be seeing that error is file corruption. If the hard drive was already failing when you did the Factory Condition Reset then it is most likely the damaged portion of the hard drive might be some of where that snap in MMC was installed.

How did the library login go?

I did not get there today, My mom had to finish doing a couple things up here at home, so we did not get out to the library. So Weather permitting after my one appointment tomorrow morning I will be able to stop in at the Library and be able to check in to my Yahoo account from there!

Why do I say weather permitting? Well, we are expecting any were from a coating to a couple of inches of snow tomorrow! Normally that would not be a problem, But our front tires on our care desperately need replacing! The tire was so bad we had to put the Emergency Spare a.k.a "The Doughnut" Tire! lol And that tire is low on air and is not going to last very much longer!! So if it snows I am not going to be going anywhere in the morning!! lmao  So I have some money coming via answering surveys online, and will use that to get tires for the car!! Then when mom and dad get their Tax refund they will pay me back, Maybe then I might be able to get my computer checked out! lol Provided nothing else goes wrong! lol Or I can just save it up and put it towards another computer or hard-drive!!

I was unable to get to the library due to the weather! Yes we only got about 1 to 2 inches of snow! Normally that would not be enough snow to prevent me from driving anywhere, but when you have bad tires and a "Doughnut" spare tire on to replace one tire that was so bad that the Steel belts were starting to show through, Well I am not about to risk my life or my parents lives to go anywhere!!  Tomorrow is another day!!

Hi Groffeaston,

Sorry to hear about the weather. Choose life! Ha ha, hopefully it calms down soon enough so you can test it. Let me know :)

I understand money is tough. Since your machine is on vista, and aged I'd say the money is best spent long term on getting a new machine with windows 7. If you'd like to provide attach.txt from DDS I can give you a better opinion by looking at your hardware as well.

Another thought :have you also considered a tablet or a netbook? If your usage fits, those are cheaper options.

A question on the attach.txt from DDS Should I copy and paste it? or Should I zip it? I am not sure how to zip it! That is why I am asking.

Yes, I have been thinking about a tablet or a notebook! But I also like the power of a Desktop. But unfortunately I do not have the $$$ for a desktop at this time. I could keep my monitor and possibly my keyboard which would save a few $$$. And just get the desktop, but the only problem with that is I read some keyboards have been known to not function properly when going from 32 bit to 64 bit OS or vice versa! I currently have a 32 bit system and I believe most of all the newer systems are 64 bit. Of course when I read that was a while ago, so they may have fixed those problems.

I had an appointment earlier today and when I got there I checked to see if I had my password written down to my yahoo account. Well I didn't have it with me!! I forgot that I had taken it out of my wallet when I needed to write it down the last time I changed it when I went to the Library and I had to rewrite it down when I got back home! I forgot to put it back in my wallet! lol SO tomorrow after my Dr's appointment I will stop at the library!  I just rewrote my password down and will put in my wallet so I do not forget it!! lmao

Hi Groffeaston,

You can copy and paste attach.txt

I like the idea of keeping the old monitor. Some notebooks offer VGA ports which would allow you to have two monitors and portability. Keyboard 32/64 problems aren't super common. If you have a PS/2 keyboard, new machines might only have USB

I look forward to seeing the results of your library yahoo login.

Hello again.

This time I made it to the library! Only thing is I still encountered some minor problems while on Yahoo. So to me, it was not enough to say whether or not it was conclusive if it is Fully my computer, Yahoo.com or something else.  Why do I say that? because I have experienced these similar types of problems before while using the library's computers, so I do not know if it is anything to do with their internet access, their computer system, their software programs, or something else. I have use Firefox and Internet Explorer on the Library's Computers. The one time I was told that using Firefox to access Yahoo.com was problematic on their computers and they were trying to fix that. So this time I used Internet Explorer.

My monitor is a "flat screen" and I believe uses an USB type port. Same with my Keyboard and Mouse. I also have 2 other VGA Monitors from 2 other older computer s, 1 from the late 1980s and 1 from the mid 1990's. lol  I also have a computer from the late 1970's lmfao I got that one for free!! Still works, at least it did last time I plugged it in! lol It Belongs in a Museum!! lol
