I just did a Vista OS Recovery, IE won't upgrade to IE9, problem running Chrome, it crashes as soon as I open it  and in Firefox,  I am seeing youtube videos not showing properly, the graphics is good but the videos are showing choppy, pausing frequently and the audio not in time with the words. I looked in the DM, nothing is yellowed and the unit's DVD player is working fine, help please?

What is the model number of the G60? There should be maybe a three or four alpha numeric after the G60? Was the video drive updated from the HP website? If the G60 has the intel chip, that isn't the best chip for graphics but videos should run okay.

Here are the prerequisites for installing IE9.

According to the specs you have a Nvidia 8200M G chipset. You can double check that. Here is the latest driver for that chipset.

Vista 32 bit

Vista 64bit

I don't think there would be an uninstall option if it was included in the OS install.

John, I am going to try reinstalling Vista from disk as way too many problems with these browsers and especially IE, I am thinking maybe the viruses on this unit may have infected the Recovery files? Get back to you in a little while.

It's usally rare that a virus would affect the files on a separate partition but it is possible. Have you tested the hard drive and memory?

No I hadn't thought that would be connected to the browser problems, I will look into that after Vista is reinstalled, get back to you.

I did the Recovery but becuase of all the browser issues, I decided to to do a reinstall from disk the did the many windows updates but different problems now, the Atheros and Broadcom wireless drivers found on the site here:

I tried installing both dirvers, the broadcom did not install, the Atheros shows as installed in the DM but windows cannot find any wireless networks, only the wired net connection works. When i press the wireless button at the top of the keyboard it turns blue only for a second then goes back to orange color. Only Chrome shows the youtube video as normal but not IE and FF, something's overheating on this unit as it gets very hot even though it does not shut down but I don't see that any hardware malfunction would cause the browser and now wireless issues? Any ideas please?

The overheating issue is worrisome. That may be due a fan not functioning. I don't know if it's a misprint but the network adapter section  on the drivers page both show wireless. Can you provide the Vendor and Device ID's in Device Manager for both Network adapters?

There was a later driver for the Atheros. Here it is. See if that works. I still have to get the other driver.

Edit: According to your second link, you have a Nvidia NIC, not broadcom. Is this correct?

That updated driver did not work for the wireless. Yes Nvidia Netowrk controller. This is so strange, why would the wireless work with the original vista drivers and not with the current drivers on their site?

That is strange. Is this 32bit or 64bit Vista?
