My friend forgot the login password to her Windows 8 laptop. She has another profile but with only standard privileges. She has a lot of research data on her computer under the admin profile and cannot afford to reset the system to factory settings. Please help me with all the possible ways to save her 10 years of research work. Thanks in advance.

Generally speaking - From the Forum Rules >>

No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures.

But the Internet is wide and by typing your problem (Remove login password to Windows 8 laptop) or a similar phrase in Google, there are hundreds of topics.

If you "Remove the login password" you then reset it.

As we do not know if this computer is Yours / Your friends / Your parents / Stolen / etc, I will not post a specific response -

Thank You -

I think it's best not to try and reset the account but to enable the hidden administrator account and use that to change or clear your password. You can enable it by following the steps here. The program used has a latter version here. You will need to disable Secure Boot and possibly Fastboot in BIOS. You may have to change the boot mode to Legacy or CSM in BIOS in order to get the disk to boot. You can burn the iso of the program in Windows 7 by right clicking and selecting Burn Image File.

If the above does not work, you can always get data off the hard drive by either attaching it to another computer or using a WinPE disk which is easily created on any Windows 7 computer using the Aoemi PE builder program which includes a Windows Explorer. With this you will be able to transfer files to an external drive. I would use the copy function and not move when you do this. You will also need to disable Secure Boot and Fastboot with the WinPE disk. Also you may need to enable Legacy or CSM boot in BIOS..

Password Recovery Tools:Not all will work on Windows 8/8.1 so be sure to check the system requirements.
