If you are having issues getting on to XBL (Xbox Live) or PSN (Play Station Network) take heart, your not the only one.  According to detectordown this is the current shot of issues in the USA for XBL

Summary:  Lizard Squad is holding a DDS attack effecting the loging in and maintaining of the XBL and PSN Networks.  Seen as a response to certain Movie like event in the last few days... but who knows.... maybe they are looking out for the children of the world and want them to go OUTSIDE and play some more.  :welcome:  "ill be here all week"

I do not use PSN online 24/7 but i recall it being down last Xmas as well and the annoying thing is you now have to pay for the service which makes it even worse. Tbh it's getting a tad boring now lol.

SO UPDATE FOR ALL.

This is according to Lizard Squad (its a sad time when the attacker gives better updates then the defender) via Engadget

Update 2: The hacking group claiming responsibility for the attacks on PSN and Xbox Live says it is no longer engaged, and that the current outages are "just the aftermath." A tweet from the group announced as much, seen here:

Attacks were stopped around 2 hours ago, the current downtime is just the aftermath.

2nd UPDATE

As of 26Dec2014 @ 01:20 CST, the XBL network is back up and running.  While that is good, it seems some connected services such as Orgin or EA, and some other Apps are not totally up.
