The Athlon64 3800+ is a socket 939, the sempron is a socket 754. Nope, that dog won't hunt.

Semprons only come in socket-754 and socket-462. However, a socket-754 Sempron (or any socket-754 Athlon64) will run in a socket-939 motherboard. This motherboard apparently has a socket-939 socket, but Compaq really cheaped out and put a Sempron in it.

Who would've thunk it, a 754 running in a socket 939?

Friend had the same or similar Compaq, I ran a diagnostic and it said the Semprom was 939 socket. Remomber to buy Themal paste, or does AMD use those thermal pads? Instructions for using that stuff can be found here
