Hello there,

I've recently noticed quite a few posts in the Am I Infected forum about the Vosteran virus...

Do you think there's a reason why a lot of people are suddenly receiving it?

Thanks,

Lighthouse Party

Spend any length of time on a computer help forum that deals in malware assistance, you'll notice trends. The names change but it's malware none the less. A few weeks or months from now the 'new kid' will grab the 'headlines'. Not that long ago it was all about Poweliks.

Vosteran and Astromenda are two of the the latest browser hijackers (Adware, PUP) to make the rounds and not a virus. This type of crap comes and goes...then a new one takes its place. Fortunately this stuff doesn't cause serious damage to a computer and generally is easy to remove.

Sometimes these things spread because the criminals started a so-called campaign. For example, in the last month criminals have e-mailed a lot of people malicious Word documents that eventually install Dridex.

@ Aida1982

Instructions for posting advice in Am I Infected

Posting referral links to non-Bleeping Computer malware removal guides is NOT permitted with the exception of well known security vendors like Kaspersky, ESET, Symantec, etc which sometimes release specialized fix tools with instructional documentation. This is because there are far too many untrustworthy and scam sites which mis-classify detections or provide misleading information and poor removal advice. It is impractical for our staff to monitor and review all such guides for accuracy, therefore, we will not permit members helping others to refer to any of them.

For this reason your link has been removed.
