Recently, i found that I had no sound - at all. I tried to run the diagnostic tool and got a mssg that said "A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting" and there was an error code 0x800706F7. Now I have two problems - no troubleshooter AND no sound. I investigated all possibilities that I could think about (drivers all current, all devices report being used or functioning), investigated the code and found that it "could" be related to a windows update, but the update was never actually loaded (reported as failed) and been trying everything I know to get a handle on this. NOW, can you guys help?

Have you tried performing a system restore (Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore) and restore back to a date when you had sound?

I tried ot find a restore point, as I had a valid one in october/november - but it has mysteriously vanished leaving only a recent one within the last week. The situation has become overwhelming because the systems seems full of snags and snafus! I have some other issues that I'd like to explain, but the last time I tried to post to this thread - I received an error mssg saying that I didn't have permission to do that! urgghhh!

I've tried all that I know how to, MalWareBytes, SuperspyWare, all drivers report being up to date and in place - I just don't know what else to do

Please post the computer model and Operating system next time. I would try running startup repair and system file checker successively just in case.

created new admin account and got the same results - no audio and same error mssg an code when I tried to run trouble shooting program. there is something else that I need to bring to the company's attention regarding an e-mail I recevied shortly after I posted my original post. I would rather send it as an attachment or IM to avoid any problems. Please advise me to this.
