I'm trying to get my laptop to output to my tv. The hdmi doesn't work at all, and the VGA won't give the correct resolution.

The laptop is an Asus UL50V   (MB Ver: UL50VT)  with Windows 7

The tv is a Samsung PN42A450P1D  ("Model Code": PN42A450P1DXZC)

I have tried several different hdmi and vga cables to rule out a problem with the cable.

When I try to use hdmi, the tv never receives anything, no matter what I do.

Using the VGA cable does work, but in windows I cannot pick the correct resolution for the TV. It only gives me 1024x768, and other smaller 4:3 resolutions.

I need to get hdmi to work, Or, vga with the correct native resolution. Thanks!

Did you change the input selection on the TV?

Well, I never got the hdmi working, but it doesn't matter. Turns out according to the manual, that the television intentionally only lets you have 1024x768, that's the pc res it has. Which means you either get bars on the sides, stretch it wide so it looks messed up, or perhaps zoom it so you lose the top and bottom of the screen. That's the answer.
