I have an Acer , Aspire 5733Z-4851 lap top with 4GB ram, 500GB HDD. IT has Win7 OS. I also have a Sandisk 16 GB USB flash drive. When i insert the USB drive the computer recognizes it in the normal way. When i send a 4gb file to the USB Flash it copies

a part of the file and then the progress bar for the USB flash turns red and the copy stops. I have to go to system properties, device manager and disk drives then uninstall the sandisk cruzer usb device.

Then unplug the USB flash drive. After a minute or so i plug the usb flash drive back in and the

device will reload and work properly till i try to transfer a file. Then it fails again. I dont know if the

problem is the usb flash drive or the computer? Please help.

You can't copy a 4GB file to a USB flash drive if it's formatted FAT or FAT32. You should format it to NTFS.

also - some of those drives will not format to NTFS-  but I would format the sandisk first and then try it - if it will format to NTFS- if not- go get a Patriot usb thumb drive with 8 gigs of memory on it and it should work fine-they are not very expensive either.

I was able to re-format the usb drive to NTFS but it still errored about a quarter of the way

thru the file transfer. The computer stopped recognizing the drive.Something is wrong with

the computer software???

Not sure why that happened unless there is a problem with the flash drive as paul88ks suggested. Does it transfer if you disable you antivirus? Try a different USB port.
