I have a laptop with Windows 8 and do not know the password to get onto the laptop.  It is an email address.  I tried Windows NT offline password and registry editor and I can see the users, I tell it to blank the password, restart the machine and the password still exists.  I have another program that is supposed to remove or change passwords but it says it can't see the operating system.  Is there a way to remove the password so I can access the laptop?

There is no other way that kylew1990 suggested for account with e-mail address / Microsoft account NOT local. There is a way of creating new local admin user using trick with exchanging  UTILMAN.EXE with CMD.exe and will work every time to gain access to PC. Not sure if is allowed to post that procedure but Google is your friend :).

If you use Microsoft account to login into WIndows 8, then you have to try password recovery from live.com, outlook.com or some other Microsoft website (they all use same account details). The tricks to edit registry using the bootable CD won't work in this case.
