Hack home network

Ok I know a gyu who rcently told me a hack breached his home network...there was evidance of alteration , cell phone hacking and tv hacking. my question is two day after I fixed his pc his phone, his time warner box and his cable box all suffered dmage enough to warent replacment and his tv's are all tv that can be online and all three of them ahave their settings somehow locked, is it possible for a hacker to do such things once they have gain accesss to only one pc on your network?
