It seems the solution is to uninstall your present IE browser and reinstall. More info can be read in

Or......you could just install FIREFOX .......(and have infinite choices re your search provider)

First turn Off IE 8

To turn off Internet Explorer in Windows XP

  1. Click the Start button, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.

  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

  3. Clear the check box for Internet Explorer, click Next, and then click Finish.

or....you can try this solution to reset optimized IE8.....

Open Add and Remove Programs>>>Scroll to Bing Toolbar and Uninstall>>>Open IE8>>>Click Tools>>>Internet Options>>>Advanced Tab>>>Click, Reset. This will bring IE8 back to it's bare bones condition!

Then....go to Internet Options, and change the Home page to what you want it to be
