No updates have occurred for at least 3 months

When i go to try to check for updates. I am told that i must restart the computer which i have done many times, but no updates occur. I would appreciate some help.

Make and model of computer, OS type ?


Is it just Windows updates you are having problems with or are you having problems with your A/V and other security software as well ?

You can try this: Microsoft Fix it: Windows Update cannot check for updates, because the service is not running

* Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer
