Moderators: if you don't like this sort of thing feel free to remove this thread, i just wanted to get an idea of the proportions of which operating systems are common among BC users. If you do remove it feel assured i won't at any point attempt to start another thread of the same type at any future date.

Just wanted to do a survey of what operating systems are popular on here. I don't think this forum allowssetting up a "poll" on a thread though. I wanted to gather as much data as possible to get a good idea of which are popular: Depending on which you have just post

"8" for windows 8

"8.1" for windows 8.1

"10" for windows 10

"7" for windows 7

"xp" for windows xp

"linux(and specify version)" for linux systems

"mac (and specify version)" for mac systems

"vista" for windows vista

"old windows" for any windows system older than xp

"planning to change" if you are in the middle of or soon going to switch from your current OS to another

"no pc" if you only use phones and tablets

"other(and please specify version)" if you don't fit any of the categories above

PLEASE answer for your main computer, not neccessarily the one you are using right now but rather the one you do most on and use most often. If you hardly use a desktop or laptop and use your phone or tablet for most stuff then please say which operating system is on the computer you use the most (even if you don't use it much), only answer "no pc" if you never use a laptop or desktop.

I'd like to see as many answers as possible to get a good idea of which operating systems are common, so if you come across this thread please take 5 seconds to type one of those answers into a post.

Thanks

7 on a desktop

Linux (Linux Lite 2.0) on a laptop

I use both fairly frequently but the desktop was down for a while.

There are three divisions based upon the age of the hardware..  Older units are on XPPRO and happy at this point. However many had attempted to upgrade to WIN7 and their hardware couldn't perform, so back to XP they returned.  Many newer units are on WIN8 but the most users like and are happy with WIN7 when bought preloaded on newer hardware.   Personally, only one laptop on WIN8, two laptops on WIN7 and one desktop on WIN7.  The home server is just a network share unit with WIN7 and workgroups to allow access to AIO printer as a peripheral.  Only the desktp and server are wired, the rest are WIFI to the router along with a number of "i"whatevers, and game consoles.  My clients are just waiting for their present hardware to fail before moving to a new platform.

Then you can get rid of XP on one of those PC's and try Linux?

Yep! That's what I was thinking, Nick. I'd like to nuke one of the XP Homes and install a Linux OS for educational purposes since I have never had one before. Sounds like fun! :guitar:
