Hello all,

I am ordering an Alienware x51 computer today. I own a copy of Win 7 Ultimate that I bought for my soon to be retired custom-built machine. Will I be able to perform a fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate on the x51, or do I have to purchase a proprietary version of the OS from Dell (for $70.00)?

My guess is that the Dell disk includes the necessary drivers and Alienware Command Center. Or maybe these are on a separate disk or can be downloaded after the OS installation?

Sorry if this is a silly question, just want to get some feedback.

Thank you so much in advance!

Nate

One can install the Ultimate OS and grab Alienware drivers from Dell support website.

If you have to purchase another key for Windows, I would rather pay $70 to Dell for recovery media.

Thanks for the reply. I am using my current key for the x51 and mothballing my old PC.

Thank you!
