Hi all! So, I've been having a problem with my desktop computer which I personally suspect is caused by my graphics card. It's a little hard to describe, so I shot a video and have uploaded it onto Youtube here. I hope linking to it is allowed.
Now, how it started. I booted up a game, and when I went into the Options menu, it glitched up the entire screen and my monitor went black, flashed back on, went into standby, then restarted. After the restart everything seemed fine, but after a while when watching a Youtube video it glitched again, with random purple and green blocks everywhere and the same thing happened: Monitor went dark, and it looked like my computer went to sleep, then restarted, this time with the graphical glitches on the bootup screens as seen in the video linked above. Worried, I went into Safe Mode and ran a scan with Malwarebytes Premium, but it turned up nothing. I restarted from Safe Mode, meaning to boot it up normally, but I got the BSOD seen in the video, and have been getting it ever since.
A mate of mine recommended trying out Startup Repair, but it didn't turn up anything. Here's a screenshot: [Link] I also tried to do a System Restore from the Repair menu, but no such luck: [Screenshot]
Some background info. I bought the computer in 2011. A few months after that, I had a bit of an accident with some water while cooking on the electric stove that caused a blackout. I suspect (with no real proof) that this might have affected my graphics card in some way, since I didn't have a surge protector at the time (I do now). it's given me trouble a few times, and I've sent the computer back to the manufacturers twice. The first time the problem was unsolved, the second time it seemed to be okay. After some software problems, I also did a full reformat and reinstall of Windows 7 Ultimate in early 2014, and it hasn't given me any trouble until yesterday, when this issue happened. The game I booted up has always worked in the past: This is the first time such a thing has happened.
I've had graphical glitches before, random slides of what looked almost like scanlines and green and purple boxes everywhere, but it has never affected the bootup screens (The NVIDIA card info, the motherboard bootup screen, etc.).
CPU: Intel i7-2600
Motherboard: ASRock P67 Pro
RAM: 2x 4GB Sticks (Forgot manufacturer, started with a K, not Kingston)
GPU: inno3D NVIDIA Geforce GTX580
Judging from what I'm seeing (and not being too tech savvy), I think that simply replacing the graphics card will fix the problem. However, I'm not sure, and a card that can replace the GTX580 isn't cheap. I'd like to get some info from savvier people before taking the plunge. Any help?
