Can I send an email to someone and get a notification letting me know the recipient opened/read the email?

If the answer is yes, how do I do this?

If the answer is yes, can yahoo do the same thing? Let me know if someone has opened/read an email I sent them.

What you are looking for is a "Read Receipt"

For Gmail:

For Yahoo:

Hi! Thanks so much for replying back.  I clicked on the first link and got saw this message.....

Read receipts
Read receipts are available only for Google Apps for Work, Education, and Government customers. They are not available in personal Gmail accounts
So what does this mean? That I can't use this feature from my home computer?

Also, the 2nd link you sent me is the same as the first one.  What is the link for yahoo?

Unless you are paying Google for a Business version of Gmail, it appears that you wont be able to use that feature

So home users like myself do NOT have this option?

And what about the link for yahoo? Seems like may have accidentally sent me the same link for google.

I did post that link twice, sorry about that. Here is the correct one:

https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mail-for-desktop/SLN3386.html?impressions=true

TLDR: "Yahoo Mail does not provide a "read/return receipt" feature."

Someone is now telling me that I can in fact do this but that I need to use a 3rd party app from the Chrome web store. Is this true?

Didn't find the chrome app, but didn't look that hard either. But did find this: http://www.boomeranggmail.com/l/read-receipt-gmail.html

Not that I'm aware of or able to find. Without paying for the service.

EDIT: Found this: https://www.manjeshojha.com/how-to-get-a-read-receipt-in-yahoo-email/

Requires Outlook Express as a mail client.

For as long as i have used it gmail has lacked a "read receipr" feature, it's a shame that such a feature is lacking but the whole idea doesn't always work either. Many things with read receipts built in require the user receiving the message to click a button and agree to send back the read receipt. If the receiver can't be bothered, or doesn't want the sender to yet know that they have read the email, then the read receipt won't be sent.
Back on this site, for a while anyway, been so busy the last year.

My systems:2 laptops, intel i3 processors, windows 8.1 installed on the hard-drive and linux mint 17.3 MATE installed to USB
