Symptoms, 1. When playing dota 2 the sharpness of the graphics seems to be diminishing the longer I play. I was able to play this game on full advance settings with no problem before. If I keep playing windows states that there is not enough memory and asks to close down programs.

2. There is sometimes a grey distortion in dota 2 as you click the news tab. The distortion usually occurs in the box where it shows the pics and stories.

3. When resizing windows explorer (or any other window) there is a dark glitch that appears as you reposition.

4. When watching you-tube music clips there is a fuzzy picture (not sharp at all) like the graphics card is having trouble rendering the video. This occurs even if I let the video buffer before I press play.

5. I used the Trend Micro ATTK tool with Clean boot. The scan picked up some threats but took 8 hours and eventually failed stating " error running java scripts" "do you want to continue running scripts on the page". I have tried to re-run the same scan several times with the same result. I also tried the clean boot option and now I am suspicious that this may altered some star-tup settings in my laptop. After I ran this tool in March this year all my problems got a lot worse.

Steps I have taken so far.

1. Clean install of windows 7

2. disabled hardware acceleration on chrome and internet explorer

3. disabled power play on CCC and realtek.

4. I posted a thread in the malware forum to see if it was virus causing this but after a few checks the advisor asked me to post in the win7 section. The thread is "possible virus persists even after clean install of win7" if you wanted to check through it.

My laptop specs are,

System     Manufacturer Acer   Model Aspire 8943G   Total amount of system memory 4.00 GB RAM   System type 64-bit operating system   Number of processor cores 4

Storage     Total size of hard disk(s) 233 GB   Disk partition (C:) 122 GB Free (233 GB Total)   Media drive (D:) CD/DVD

I have no clue.

None of your errors point to a video problem, IMO...but you have some VSS/BITS issues that I believe need some attention.  I can't comment on those because I don't have the background with such and I would have to make the wild guess that your motherboard might be the root of all known issues.

You say that you did a clean install of the O/S...yet Speccy indicates an install date of Apr 2009.  With that date reflected...it seems doubtful that a clean install was done, IMO.  Perhaps actually doing one will enable someone to troubleshoot any ensuing issues with more clarity.

The speccy information of when the install date of win 7 must be wrong, as at the start of this year (jan 2014) I replaced my existing hard drive with an ssd thus installed a fresh install of windows 7. Also I have clean install win7 serveral times, by using a win 7 dvd and folowing prompts to install, custom, format and delete existing partitions, create new partition and install. I don't know why speccy would indicate this? The date seems to suggest the time close to when I bought the machine.

As for the VSS/BITS issue, could you explain a little further oh what this is?

I have 3 laptops in the house including a brand new msi and a apple imac mini. All of the devices are exhibiting the same problem. I am pretty unsure of what has happend but it may be the power within the house, or my "phone and internet line connection" causing this.

My network is very simple, its 1 line coming in from the box outside the house that connects to a central filter, this separates the phone and internet line. The phone line connects to the phone and the internet line connects to the modem. There are no other connections (no satelite tv or alarm system) and no other filters/switches used. Whats weird is a Telstra (australian isp provider) technician came to inspect the lines and he tested the down/up speeds at 3 locations (using his hand held device),

1. outside line coming into the box at the outside of the house,

2. at the master socket , and

3. disconnecting the master socket and connecting the line directly.

The readings were 1. 19mb/s, 2. 6mb/s 3. 19mb/s. The readings seem to suggest that it may be the master phone socket causing the error but after replacing the socket with a new one we get a similar drop in performance. I am pretty clueless as to what this is.

If it is power in the house, is there any software programs I can yous to check the power of my laptops? I use speed fan already and get a reading of GPU VDCC: 1.00V. bty I have already checked the voltage of several power outlets with no problems detected.

Do you have any ideas?

Well...if I have 3 system networked...and they all exhibit a common unusual system...i would be thinking "infection".

Beyond that, I see no common possible denominator other than the networking itself.

To explore any possible causes other than Win 7 for your situation...you really need to post in an appropriate forum.  If you suspect malware, post in a BC malware forum.  If you suspect power issues of any sort...the members in the Hardware forums would be more likely to be able to respond.
