I've been working on a graphics theme for an online game called TankPit (just as a player, I'm not a professional designer or anything). I think it's an awesome idea with good potential, but I can't seem to get it right (it's hard on the eyes, so they tell me).

How can I keep the cyan, "glowing" look of the lines with the black background, but fix things so it's easier on the eyes?

Here is a snapshot of the theme I've made, and below it is a snapshot of the original theme for the game:

And here is a YouTube video I made of it as well, in case that's helpful: http://youtu.be/J61TrJBg0Ck

I'm very new to editing anything, so I thought it looked pretty good, but I'm told the contrast isn't right. I just haven't been able to figure out how to fix that in such a pixelated game without losing the "Grid" look. xD

I use GIMP 2.8.8

Thank you for your time and any advice!
